![]() I’ll ask about that when I’m in next too. But what does that mean exactly? I don’t make it a habit to trim my toenails into a razor-sharp point, but at the same time I don’t like the edges sharp either (for when I play footsie with my wife or kick one of my kids in the butt). I’ve always heard “trim them straight across”. One area that I don’t feel very confident though, is proper technique in trimming my nails. I have not had any problems with my feet so far, but have learned to be very careful with them. The vibration sense testing using a tuning fork was Performed. ![]() TENS units intensity ranges from 1 mA to 100 mA. You, with your eyes closed again, will respond that yes, you can feel the vibration.Īnother common thing is to check your pulse in some specific parts along your ankle and foot, which apparently gives some indication as to your blood flow down there. TENS probes were placed adjacent to the hallux. The doc will strike this thing on something to start it vibrating, then start touching the end to your feet. The other is very similar, but it uses something kind of like a tuning fork (not sure what it’s really called). You close your eyes, then they touch your feet in various places with the line, and you are to respond when you feel it. One is to use a small filament, very much like a piece of thick fishing line. There are a couple of ways that I know of for checking the level of feeling in the feet. I think that most endo’s would make it part of the routine for someone like me (approaching 26 years of D in April), and I’m a bit concerned that I’ll have to actually ask to have them examined when I go in next. Vibration testing with the 128-Hz tuning fork is recommended as a test for DPN, but no specific method has been agreed upon. I’m just thinking back, and it’s been years for me. The CTF test should replace the 10-g monofilament test as the recommended technique for detection of DPN.How often do you guys & gals have your feet examined? The risk of foot ulcers, which is associated with diminished vibratory sensation, can therefore be detected earlier and more accurately with the CTF test. It provides a quantitative assessment of DPN and can document severe neuropathy, even in the presence of a normal result with the 10-g monofilament test. ![]() The CTF test is reproducible and accurate. Of 32 patients with vibration perception of 4 seconds or less, 50% had normal monofilament test scores, including 29% of 17 patients with absent vibratory sensation. Among patients with 8 seconds or less of vibration perception, results of monofilament testing were abnormal only in those whose vibration perception was less than or equal to 4 seconds. The Pearson correlation coefficient comparing the right and the left foot scores for the same patient was 0.947 (P<0.05). The mean duration of vibration sensation was 10.2 seconds, with a standard deviation of +/-1.3 seconds. Presence of foot ulcers in 81 patients was correlated with both test scores. The scores of the CTF test were compared with the monofilament scores in 45 patients with diabetes. After these tests, 30 randomly selected patients were tested on both feet, with right and left scores compared for reproducibility of the results. To determine the mean and standard deviation for the CTF test, repeated measurements were taken on one toe of 12 patients with diabetes during one visit. To describe the clanging tuning fork (CTF) test, a novel method for using the C 128-Hz tuning fork to test for diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), to evaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of this technique, and to compare it with the 5.07 (10 g) Semmes-Weinstein monofilament test. While the short gu_ag consensus sequence of introns is clearly not sufficient to differentiate amongst the multitude of alternative splicing events, surprisingly little is known about what other sequence information is required to regulate alternative RNA splicing (Ladd and Cooper, 2002 Barash et al., 2010 Witten and Ule, 2011). The splice acceptor consensus sequence is preceded by a branch point sequence, which contains an adenine, which is ligated to the 5′ splice site ribonucleotide to form the intron lariat, and a polypyrimidine tract (c or u), which is between the branch point and the splice acceptor sequence. However, here we use this expression to indicate that the sequence represented by the underscore can be any sequences except for sequences that do not match any of the other consensus sequences. Usually, an expression of “gu_ag” means that only the 5′ and 3′ terminal two nucleotides of the sequence are invariable as gu and ag, respectively, and that a sequence represented by the underscore can be any sequences. A longer splice donor consensus sequence in most mammals is guragu, where r is either g or a (Mount, 1982 Black, 2003). The almost invariant consensus sequence for mRNA splicing in animals and plants is gu_ag, where gu is the splice donor sequence and ag is the splice acceptor sequence. Our work sheds new light on a possible mechanism for generating the tremendous diversity in protein structure by alternative splicing of pre-mRNAs. We also noticed the set of introns within a gene usually share the same splicing codes, thus arguing that one sub-type of splicesosome might process all (or most) of the introns in a given gene. Some of the alternative splicing consensus sequences, and presumably their small-RNA or protein targets, are evolutionarily conserved from 50 plant to animal species. We further supported our hypothesis by showing that 96 out of 96 analyzed human disease mutations that affect RNA splicing, and change alternative splicing from one class to another, can be partially explained by a mutation altering a consensus sequence from one type of intron to that of another type of intron. 37 of the 42 top consensus sequences are significantly enriched or depleted in at least one of the 36 types of introns. In humans, we identified 42 different consensus sequences that are each present in at least 100 human introns. Our bioinformatics-based hypothesis is that, in analogy to the genetic code, there is an “alternative-splicing code” in introns and flanking exon sequences, analogous to the genetic code, that directs alternative splicing of many of the 36 types of introns. In pre-mRNAs, in addition to invariant exons that are present in almost all mature mRNA products, there are at least 6 additional types of exons, such as exons from alternative promoters or with alternative polyA sites, mutually exclusive exons, skipped exons, or exons with alternative 5′ or 3′ splice sites. Deep sequencing of cDNAs made from spliced mRNAs indicates that most coding genes in many animals and plants have pre-mRNA transcripts that are alternatively spliced. ![]() The story here is the strength of the film, being witty, smart but never condescending nor insulting the intelligence of the audience. And it's a rare specimen of a dragon too, which would have brought him instant glory. In a stroke of uncanny luck, Hiccup downs a flying dragon in the heat of battle, and his compassion meant to set the dragon free, rather than trying to prove himself to be a worthy viking man by killing it. Wanting to help out in any way he can, he's deemed more of a liability than an asset, especially when even his dad Stoick (Gerard Butler) cannot appreciate his unique, technical talent. Thank goodness that this film, directed by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders, avoids this like the plague, and Jay Baruchel voices Hiccup, a viking kid who happens to be more brains than brawn, more scrawny than buffed, and this of course sets him apart from the rest of his warrior clan folks, who are battle scarred from the constant defense of the village pests - dragons who come from afar to plunder their livestock and setting their houses on fire, so much so that every house on the block is relatively brand new. ![]() If this is done following the same old beat up formula that Hollywood sticks to with regards to animation, then the dragons will be yakking non-stop. ![]() When the player invokes the feature, there is a pay table boost from 8-5 to 10-5." As a reminder, the game awards 12 bonus hands for two dealt aces and 13 for three. The WOO page text says, in the Analysis Section: "Following is my analysis of 5-play 8-5 Bonus Poker. Very well done to cut through such a thick fog!Ģ. I am impressed with Wizard's impressive instincts and persistence. I now calculate that the average value of the bonus for AAA hands = 295.0297323. However, I note that your table above appears to have an error - hands 11 and 12 have identical entries. I see now that the rules you have posted indicate a stack size of 13 for an AAA hand. Unfortunately, the player return on this feature is slightly lower, if my values are correct. I calculate that the blended average for AAA = 258.595987. You have modeled a stack of 13! Not a stack of 12!įor a stack of 12, I get AAA-xy = 258.549196 and AAA-xx = 258.6817704 The bottom right cell shows the value of the bonus is 292.02 credits. If I may, here is my math if the player is dealt three aces and two singletons. It should be greater than the 99.17% return of 8-5 Bonus. That gives the additional bet a return of 94.6%. However, the player must pay 5 credits for it. The bottom right cell shows the feature, in 8-5 Bonus, is worth 4.73 credits. I know I'm skipping a lot of steps, but here is the final table showing the value of the feature: In conventional 8-5 Bonus, I show, on average, all hands with two aces on the deal have an EV of 1.856810. If the player gets AAxyz (two aces and three singletons), here is the value of the subsequent 12-hand bonus.īlended average of AA bonuses = 116.5185234 What the player throws away affects the subsequent hands. I have a feeling any error I made is probably in setting up the various situations the player can get two aces. I didn't see any flaws and think we did it the same way. Row 3 would be similar but starting with these values for the likelihood of the current number of aces. That is, we apply the starting probabilities. Now we have to take into account the likelihood of A, B and C. If we have 4 aces, the probability of ending with 2 or 3 is zero and the probability of 4 is 1. The probability of ending with 4 is just the remainder = 0.04347826. If we have 3 aces, the probability of ending with 2 aces is zero. If we have just 2 aces, the three probabilities are the same as above. Multiply by 3 (the 3 possible ending positions) to get the overall probability of 1 ace = 0.12210916. The probability of getting an ace in position 1 is 2 * 45 * 44/(47*46*45). But just so we are all on the same page, here are where my numbers come from in case someone can spot a flaw in my logic. The question for the poll is would you play Stack 'em Up Poker? However, I am expecting the returns from Action Gaming. Without knowing the probability distribution of extra hands, it will be impossible to analyze. Had one of those improved to four aces, that fourth ace would have replicated too. Updating review 10 years later! I've owned my Focus nearly 13 years now and can't complain. Huge trunk great for travel.I love this car! The back seat is roomier than I expected and the front is very comfortable. The original Firestone tires were.well, junk, and after lots effort on the dealership's part, I gave up and replaced them with Pirelli tires at 8000 miles. I have the Zetec engine, it has lots of pep and I get 25 mpg overall and that's with over 20 stop lights between home and work. I bought this car new and it is just as much fun to drive over 3 years later. Some people, I am certain, will think I am certifiably insane. In fact, I like the wagon so much so, I am willing to repair my oil leak not by fixing the leak itself ($2k) and leaving the old engine and transmission in place, but by pro-actively installing a brand new OEM engine, remanufactured transmission, cross-members, struts, hub assemblies, alternator, water pump, power steering pump, radiator, new wires, and a few other items for $12K - rather than scrap the car and buy someone else's problem. But this is an economy car, not an F-18 fighter jet, and while I may yet wish for many gauges and a Heads-Up-Display with Infrared to see through snow, I am aware of the reality that you get what you pay for with that in mind, I like my Focus. Also, it's acceleration is not as quick as I would like, but for a vehicle in its class, I think it does well enough. To be honest, there are some things about this car I do not like, chiefly poor fuel economy (compared to yesteryear's Japanese imports), poor sound insulation from road noise, the front-end turn signal lights are too much in the center, and an instrumentation cluster that does not provide any useful and preventative information concerning the vehicles day-by-day condition. Having previously lived in a climate with extremes of cold and hot temps, I am not surprised that the motor mounts have begun to crack, increasing engine vibration. The original engine and transmission have served well over the last 7 years, though at 180K the engine has sprung a leak. Other than regular oil changes, fuel filters, air filter, struts and an alternator - all normal wear and tear items - I have experienced no unexpected hard part failures. I don't know what the previous owner did to the vehicle I bought it as-is and immediately had necessary but normal maintenance items performed. Where I live, everything is a long-distance commute. In less than 2-1/2 years I added another 60K, or a little over 26K per year. For example, in October 2015, I changed the timing belt at just under 120K. Given my propensity for clocking what many would call excessive miles per year, it is only understandable I have had a higher maintenance cost. In the 7 years I have owned the car I have added 120,000 miles for a total of just over 180,000 miles on the original equipment. I purchased my 2003 Focus Wagon used with just over 60,000 miles in June 2011 when the car was about 8 years old. ![]() For example, if an entrepreneur plans to manufacture all-vegan, organic spa products, the business plan will help dictate the standards the company will look for in its vendors.
